Why do you charge for the course when the podcasts are free?

We’re a small team of English teachers. The podcasts are free for everyone, and they’ll stay that way. But making them costs money, and so do the eBooks, transcripts and audio classes that turn them into a course: each pack takes months of full-time work.

Some packs contain up to 170 conversations, recorded in different places with different people, and we pay people for their time. Then there are the costs of running sites like ours: web and audio hosting, domain names, the email list, our help desk, software, studio time and sound engineering, recording equipment, translation and design.

We could cover those costs with advertising, but ads would distract you and make the lessons worse. So we give most of our audio away free, and sell the complete course to people who want to go further. If you enjoy what we make, buying the course is what lets us keep making it.
